SciFi and Fantasy Mary Sues. There are all too many. (well, okay, one is too many)

Mary Sue (or Gary Stu) is an odd creature that inhabits the internet, up there in the ranks with rubber face fetishists, creepy alien-destroying cults, furries, and Republicans. It is a person who inserts himself into a story (and only God knows why) and has all sorts of fanstastic adventures without any sort of plot conflict or resolution. It is basically a mental masturbation session for the lonely denizen of the net, typically a teen although there are always exceptions. I must note that I am no exception to the rule and have written some bad Mary Sue fiction myself (or rather Gary Stu), most of which revolved around Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy or some odd stories involving all-too beautiful princes in far off lands. That said, it is now my duty to mock, ridicule, and otherwise destroy Mary Sues and Gary Stus. For the good of the universe.

What are my credentials? Well, the former author handed me the diary. Also, I am a language major, anal retentive, and very sarcastic. In other words, perfect for the job.

Here's a bit of info. Let's not make personal attacks, shall we? It's best to criticize the work alone. Although it's tempting to make fun of the doughy, pasty beasts that dwell on the internet, writing bad stories and drawing anthropomorphic animals having sex, we best remember that there but for the grace of God, go us ourselves.

Hello authors! Don't take it personally. Steven Spielberg has yet to bitchslap Leonard Maltin, so we don't expect any treatment of the sort. This is how artists grow, so if you consider writing your art, then take this one on the chin, grin, and write a piece that blows us out of the water. Otherwise, you're just bitching.
